Color Gloer, Larry Klein, owner of Color Glo International, Texas, sent us this email today and we were so impressed, we wanted to share it with you.

This project started out as a simple email about restoring some leather tiles. I was hesitant when I found the customer lived 65 miles from Dallas. I requested they send photos, but they were so out of focus I could not see any damage so I called and they said please come out to see for your self it will be worth your while.

They agreed to a trip charge so I made the trip and found an Edelman leather floor. A few years ago I stopped in the Edelman showroom in the Dallas design district and exchanged cards and asked questions to become more familiar with their leather which is incredible.

I saw the floor tiles in the showroom that are used for walls and floors. Fast forward to this project. I was recommended to this customer by an upholsterer I had down work for about two years ago.

Original color of the floor was a two tone dark/light brown. Lightly sanded the surface, cleaned with Wax and Silicone remover because they had been waxing the floor. Put down two coats of Vinyl Leather Base sanding between coats and used fully pigmented dye to create a pattern using the light that was there and dark reddish brown to match the original finish.

Two days – 18 hours of work – charged $6,500.00 and they were thrilled and want me to return June 1, to re-dye eight panels of leather on the kitchen island. Replacement cost of this floor including labor – $20,000 – $25,000 plus having to stay in a hotel for a week due the dust from sanding off the wood the leather tiles are bonded too.

Lesson – you never know what can happen so learn about specialty leather products like these tiles by taking time to talk with the manufacturer.
